Recent Train Accidents: Govt to see if any plots involved
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government would probe if there was any “ill motive” and “conspiracy” behind the recent train accidents in the country.
She expressed deep shock and sorrow at the deaths of passengers in a train accident in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba on Tuesday.
The premier was delivering her winding-up speech in the 5th session of the 11th parliament.
Hasina said she has already instructed the authorities concerned to repair all the old rail lines.
Talking about the soaring prices of onion, she said the government would sell 50,000 tonnes of onion in open markets in districts to curb rising prices.
The PM said thhe government has already taken steps to import onion from different countries, including Egypt and Turkey.
“LCs have been opened for importing 50,000 tonnes of onion. We will give this consignment to TCB [Trading Corporation of Bangladesh] to sell onion on trucks in open markets at the district level.”
She said the TCB was selling onion at Tk 45 to Tk 50 per kg at different places.
The leader of the House thanked lawmakers for keeping parliament vibrant. “No foul language was used in parliament.
We have ensured a tolerant environment at the Jatiya Sangsad, which is good for democracy.”
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad in her concluding speech in the session said the killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi in Feni was a testimony to how much cruelty existed in the society. The madrasa student was sexually harassed before being burnt to death, she added.
She also suggested continuing the ongoing drive against bribery, criminal activities, casinos and drugs.
The 5th session of the current parliament had begun on November 7. Six bills were placed and three bills passed by parliament during the brief session.
