Highest Covid-19 deaths, daytime infections reported

Forty-five people have died with coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a day in the country so far.

The death toll now stands at 975 and the death rate at 1.36 percent, said Dr. Nasima Sultana, DGHS ‘s additional general director (administration) during a briefing.

In the last 24 hours, three thousand one hundred and seventy-one people tested positive for Covid-19. This is also the largest number of infections in 24 hours, reported.

The most recent figures take the country’s total number of infections to 71,675.

In the last 24 hours, Dr. Nasima said, a total of 14,664 samples have been tested in 55 labs across the country.

Meanwhile, since yesterday 777 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 15,336, the DGHS official added.

In the last 24 hours a total of 557 people have been put under isolation, she said.

Among the deceased, there were 33 males and 12 females, she said, adding that there were 28 from Dhaka, 11 from Chattogram, two from Sylhet, two from Rajshahi, and two from Rangpur.

Among them two were between the ages of 11–20, two between 21–30, five between 31–40, three between 41–50, 15 between 51–60, 10 between 61–70, and the other eight were between the ages of 71–80, Dr. Nasima added.
