Govt itself instigating fundamentalism, alleges Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that ruling Awami League government is instigating the fundamentalism to have political benefits.

“Ruling government itself is instigating fundamentalism to have political benefits. They are searching way to eliminate BNP by putting the blame of fundamentalism. As a result, the country is suffering,” he said while addressing journalists at his home at Tantipara area in Thakurgaon district on Tuesday.

Thakurgaon municipality mayor and district BNP general secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, vice president Al Mamun and finance secretary Shariful Islam, among others, were present.

Fakhrul said the BNP keeps no connection with fundamentalism, rather, BNP believes in religious freedom not in fanaticism.”

He further said fundamentalism problems appear in the country mostly during the tenure of Awami League.

The BNP leader said, “No militant exists in the country but fundamentalism remains. It (fundamentalism rises through the declaring fatwa.”

He also alleged that AL is making a cat’s paw, and sheltering fundamentalism to solid the base of one-party rule.

About local elections, Fakhrul said, “Polls environment remained unchanged. There is no scope of fair elections until the present Election Commission and the government are changed.”
